This is a tough question. I am not sure there is just one answer or any simple fixes.

Change is hard for any organization.

My two cents:

Listening to new voices, ideas , trying new forms of communication, and being open minded can help members feel appreciated and apart of something bigger than them selves.

Personally I am looking an organization that I can meet new people, network, and give back to the community in some way. I want to be a light in the community to be a part of positive social change.

In an organization like this, a chance at leadership and development is also a big nugget that can help my resume and career in a different way.

The other membership problem is retaining our current members. We have several members who have not renewed. Need to look for reasons for non-renewal. i.e.: didn't know my membership expired/ getting too old/ no longer satisfying my requirements/ costs too much/ my company no longer paying my dues/ and what ever. Need to look at reasons in order to make changes in our process.
