Speaker: CAPT Megan Thomas, FORCE MATERIEL OFFICER (N4), NAVAL SURFACE FORCE ATLANTIC
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Captain
Thomas earned her commission through the
Pennsylvania State University NROTC program in
1997. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic
Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
At sea, Captain Thomas served as the Ordnance
Office aboard USS MILIUS (DDG 69) during the ship’s
maiden deployment, Reactor Propulsion Division
Officer aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN
73), Operations Officer aboard USS MITSCHER (DDG
57), Main Propulsion Assistant aboard USS
ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), and Executive Officer and
Commanding Officer of USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99). She has completed deployments
to Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Fleets. Most recently, she commanded USS GETTYSBURG
(CG 64), returning the ship back to sea following the Service Life Extension and Cruiser
Modernization Programs.
Ashore, Captain Thomas served as the OCS Distribution Branch Head at Navy
Recruiting Command Headquarters, a member of the Commander’s Action Group at
Naval Surface Force Atlantic, a Surface Warfare Officer Post-Department Detailer as
well as the Branch Head for Surface Nuclear Assignments at Navy Personnel
Command. She recently returned to Naval Surface Force Atlantic and serves as the
Force Materiel Officer.
Captain Thomas has been awarded the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal
(4 awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals (3 awards), and the
Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards).
