ASNE President Mark Hugel, RADM, USN (Ret), kicked off the 2019-2020 dinner/meeting program on September 18, providing an update on the state of the Society, as well as his major priorities and challenges for his two-year term and beyond. He made an impassioned plea for a focus on membership, young professionals and student outreach, driven principally through engagement at the local Section level. Executive Director Dale “Kid” Lumme was also in attendance, making a special trip from ASNE headquarters in Washington, DC for this event. Thank you both for helping us kick-start the season!
Before President Hugel spoke, Mr. Paul Siebeking was presented a special certificate of recognition. One of the four (4) ASNE TW scholarships was named for Mr. Siebeking. Additionally, Paul was acknowledged for 50 years of membership within ASNE! Paul was deeply humbled to be honored and recognized for his achievements.
Mike D’Amato, ASNE TW Programs Committee Co-Chair, gave a brief presentation of the ASNE-Sika 25th Annual Build-A-Boat Challenge held in June 2019. He thanked all those involved who helped make it a success. The net proceeds from the event (over $7,000!) went toward ASNE scholarship funds and STEM grants.
